Different storm responses of organic carbon transported to Lake Taihu by the eutrophic Tiaoxi River, China

چکیده

Low-frequency high-magnitude storms can flush disproportionate amounts of terrigenous dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and particulate (POC) into rivers during a short period. However, previous studies focused on the impacts transport in headwater streams that are minimally influenced by human activities far from lakes. To better estimate lake budget manage water environments, we need to understand storm-induced lakes eutrophic rivers. Based daily hourly time-series monitoring data, this paper systematically studied influences storm precipitation DOC POC Tiaoxi River entering Lake Taihu, 3rd largest freshwater China. The results showed seven transported 59% annual total Taihu 2019, all resulted peaks. During period August 9–16, was negatively related level (r = −0.44, p < 0.05), but responded positively 0.52, 0.05); allochthonous contents were elevated, autochthonous components diluted. Moreover, input riverine environment across large region, lasted more than 10 days. These findings have important implications for accurately estimating fluxes making better-informed decisions about when pump drinking

Remote sensing of particulate organic carbon dynamics in a eutrophic lake (Taihu Lake, China).

A two step approach was developed to estimate POC concentrations in a shallow eutrophic lake, where dissolved carbon and inorganic particulate matter strongly influence optical properties. The approach was based on the identification of a co-variability of POC concentrations with one or more inherent optical properties (IOPs). In the present case, a relationship between POC and absorption at 62...

Organic phosphorus species in surface sediments of a large, shallow, eutrophic lake, Lake Taihu, China.

Organic phosphorus (P) fractions in surface sediments from a large shallow, eutrophic Lake Taihu, China, were extracted with 0.1 M NaOH after pre-treatment of the sediments with a solution composed of 0.1 M EDTA and 2% (w/v) Na(2)S(2)O(4). Composition of organic P in the extracts was then characterized by (31)P nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy ((31)P NMR). Several P species, including ph...

Mobility and sulfidization of heavy metals in sediments of a shallow eutrophic lake, Lake Taihu, China.

The technique of DGT (diffusive gradients in thin films) using three diffusive gel thicknesses was applied to estimate the mobility and bioavailability of heavy metals in sediments and porewater of Lake Taihu, China. The DGT results showed significantly positive correlations between Co, Pb, Cd and Mn, and Ni and Fe concentrations in porewater. Cu and Zn showed a significantly negative correlati...

Potential of constructed wetlands in treating the eutrophic water: evidence from Taihu Lake of China.

Three parallel units of pilot-scale constructed wetlands (CWs), i.e., vertical subsurface flow (VSF), horizontal subsurface flow (HSF) and free water surface flow (FWS) wetland were experimented to assess their capabilities in purifying eutrophic water of Taihu Lake, China. Lake water was continuously pumped into the CWs at a hydraulic loading rate of 0.64 m d(-1) for each treatment. One year's...

Spatiotemporal Variation in Particulate Organic Carbon Based on Long-Term MODIS Observations in Taihu Lake, China

In situ measured values of particulate organic carbon (POC) in Taihu Lake and remote sensing reflectance observed by three satellite courses from 2014 to 2015 were used to develop an near infrared-red (NIR-Red) empirical algorithm of POC for the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS-Aqua) satellite image. The performance of the POC algorithm is highly consistent with the in situ ...
